Doug Lodge

Each week, we have been featuring a cast member form Light in Odd Spaces. Our final actor highlighted is Doug Lodge, a well-known local slate roofer who offers his own personal Odd Fellows perspective in the show.

A Short Bio

Doug grew up in the late 50s and early 60s and lived next to the Allegheny campus. The campus and the surrounding blocks were his “stomping grounds.” He knew, from school, kids who lived at “The Home” (the Odd Fellows Orphanage), but Doug does not recall encountering them when roaming about with friends.

I asked Doug what his thoughts now are about Odd Fellows…..

“As I have come to understand the operation there, it seems to have been cloistered. We were like outsiders to each other.  In my 20s and 30s, as I began a 50 year career of caring for the slate roofs of Crawford County, I passed through and worked in all of the small communities here about. I often saw an IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) in town centers. About 20 years ago I found an 1888 copy of Odd Fellowship: Its History and Manual and began to understand that this fraternal organization was responsible for much good work in these communities.”
